Typico Sodita, Por Favor

Finding that small, local “soda” (little restaurant) is not difficult in Costa Rica but finding a Sodita (a mini Soda with only two tables or so) is tougher for sure.


When stumbling upon one, it’s like discovering a gem.

“La Unica” opened 8 months ago and serves typical Costa Rican food. There is not much on the menu but that makes it all the better. Claudia, owner/cook/super-mamá, will gladly recite for you the day’s options as there is not printed menu. This is common in smaller Sodas.


Gallos with chicken and beef, both were with fresh (and I mean FRESH) corn tortillas.

She also has casados, frijoles, ensalada, and horchata.


The kids enjoyed a game of pick-up soccer while Claudia made the corn tortillas that would be served with chicken, lettuce, cabbage, tomato, salt and fresh lemon.


How to get to this gem?

When driving along the PanAmerican Highway, exit at Guacimal and head towards Monteverde/Santa Elena. It will be on your right. “La Unica” is open 7 days a week.
