Love

Last night as an older couple sat down in the lounge, I was struck by the unspoken love between the two. Looking at their canes I was struck at how it symbolized, at least in my mind, the love between two people that has lasted decades. The story I have for them includes many times where they were separated from one another. It includes rough patches where neither was sure if it would work. It included the highs of having children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren.

In my story for this couple, this couple stuck it out – for better or for worse, in good times and in bad – together.

Through the challenging times, each one would act to support the other. And now, sitting in the Hawaiian breeze late at night with music in the background, their canes stand next to one another.

These four now will walk together into the night, side by side.
